The words of Yoda are pricking my heart in preparation for this experience; "Attachment leads to jealousy; the shadow of greed, that is. Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose." He is speaking to Anakin about his premonitions of watching Padme suffer and die, but, in the context of pondering my own worldy possessions, I too am experiencing some very real emotions at the thought of removing certain items from my own realm of control. What does that say about my relationship to my stuff? Two things: that idolatry is sneakier and much more deep rooted than I am in the habit of admitting about myself, and that I am probably not alone in my condition.

Whew. This has the potential to be really, really hard. But once again, I will remember those more famous words of the Jedi Master, "Do or do not...there is no try." Peace.
Brazos,
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for your journey!! I'm going to be following along and learning from you...as well as supporting you in prayer!! I find your experiment to be intriguing to say the least. I'd also love to know what you do within the youth ministry in terms of practicing 'simplicity' together.
Joy!
